I am installing the rear 7900 brake calipers on my 2006 Lemond Tete de Course and I think the rear pivot bolt used to install the caliper onto the frame is too short. The front caliper went in perfectly but the rear one is not. According to Shimano's website, the rear caliper's bolt is 1.5" but there is no way that is going to be long enough. It is #4 in the attached diagram link.

Am I doing something wrong? Are there different lengths available and I need to order a longer pivot bolt?

Look at the techdoc you linked. There are various recessed bolt lengths. It's not unusual for this to be true.

Actually there is only one BOLT length listed for the rear caliper in the techdoc, but have you tried a longer nut? Your LBS should have many options in the parts box.

Thanks for the advice - I'll stop by my LBS tomorrow and ask to see if I can get a longer bolt.

The only way thats true is if you're blind, sorry

No, the only way it's not true is if you don't know the difference between a nut and a bolt. The bolt is the male part, the nut is the female - but I'm sure you know nothing about that mix of human anatomy either.

And JC911, ask for a longer NUT

Brain fart on terminology. It's scary that I actually made a mistake. Well **** me.
