Road Cycling - Shimano Brakes - Uletegra vs 105?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Building on an newly acquired frame. Probably going mostly Ultegra, but other than a few grams of wt. difference between the Ultegra and 105 brakes, is there really that much difference?

I don't believe the 105's have the DA cartridge pads.

Ultegra has the same cartridge pads as DA. Sorry for the confusion.

just get good pads if you want good braking power

I would go with the 105 (I have those on my bike) and the first thing I will do is replace the pads with Koolstop brand pads. the koolstop stop better then any Shimano, and your rims will last longer...

Truthfullly on brakes I think there is zero difference other than weight. I still have *gasp* RX100 brakes!!! And you know what? I can skid all day long, just like my friend with his 2004 Dura Ace brakes :D As long as they stop you, who cares. And like another poster had said, the pads make more of a difference than the brakes anyways.

The DuraAce has a nicer finish and is lighter than Ultegra,
and Ultegra has a nicer finish and is lighter than 105,
if you're concerned about stuff like that.
Otherwise they function the same
