Spinners, no matter if they're for a motorcycle or a car/truck, have the weight of the spinning part equally distributed-- the bearings are at the rim, not the hub. There's no polar inertia.
Dave
Wether the berrings are at the hub or rim has nothing to do with polar inertia, other than the position of the weight of the berrings themselves relative to the point of rotation, which isn't much compaired to the whole wheels weight. Polar inertia being an object's resistance to a change in angular velocity. The gyroscope effect doesn't care where the berrings are either.
Europeans are out of their freakin' minds, SidecarCross.

I'm not looking at practical, just I think they only have their place on a showbike...and most people would never ride their showbikes...so when are the wheels going to spin?
If they were motor actuated, that could work, but very few spinners work that way.
Place for everything, and to me those only belong in a showroom or custom bike show. Plus those would be screaming for your bike to get stolen....and where are you goint to run the lock through....your going to need one humongous lock to keep folks form stealing what very well could be a $500+ set of "bling" wheels.
To each their own, but to me, it's not just form a racing perspective, but form almost every single angle involving bikes and our society that would make this a bad idea. It takes a well schooled theif to know what a colnago or Litespeed is or what's so hot about Kestrel frames....but to see a spinner of any kind....they will automatically know it's going to be worth some bank...therefore the shadier folks will go out of their way to "acquire the bling". I'd just rather not deal with it at all.

Again with the practical, you say your not worried about practical but then talk of nothing but practical.
You don't bother to lock it up. You go ride it to the park and sit there on it while talkin' to the shorties, or what ever place you like to cruise, then ride it home to a nice secure garage or bedroom.
Well, it had to happen. Spinner rims for bikes.

(*$&* can we lock this thread if articles about the link or the link that was posted 3 times already comes up again? Basically nobodies even reading the thread and just bumping it needlessly now
I think Spinning wheels are the stuff. I put spinners on everything. my kid has spinning training wheels. my baby has spinners on his stroller. spinners on skateboards, big wheels, golf carts, wheel chairs, and everything else. i'm trying to make spinners for my mini bike(miniature crotch rocket). i love spinners because they catch the eye and it gives people something to point at, and pointing is fun.

Couldn’t you just stand over the top tube and pull the frame in snug … that would allow your wheels to spin while you wait at the light. But I would think a beanie with a propeller on it would spin just as well and probably command more respect.

I would still go for just gold plating the entire bike. If your going to be ghetto, just get some 100-spoke wheels and gold plate everything...then you dont need any spinners :p
