ok o just got a new back wheel for free because my other one was busted but the only problem is it has a 14 tooth free wheel instead of the 16 on my old on. i rode it any ways and i can ttell its harder to pedal. i do have a 36 tooth fbm grind thhough. will 36-14 be close to equal to a 44-16?

I think I get it, IMO its one tooth rear =2 front.
a 44-16... 2 rear\ subtract 4 from front. 40t front chairing, with 14 rear would be the same as 16\44.
I might be wrong...my guess.
Chainrings are more than cogs. Can't you put a 16 on.?

The 36-14 will be a little lower gear than 44-16. If I did my math right.

If you spin out, try a really BIG rear tire. ?

Rev- you making fun of me? and I'm sure you math skills are great.

Tyler, not sure but a 16 is like $10-$15. My lbs GAVE me a 10 tooth and the lock ring free.
They said $5 to install. (mtb).

38.5 chainring gives the equivalent ratio, so 36/14 would be about 7% lower than than 44/16.
The 44/14 is 14.3% higher than the 44/16.
