Hey! im pretty new here. Im a student @ UCR and rely on my bike for a good amount of getting around. Over the 4th of July weekend I did a 30 mile ride along the boardwalk on newport beach/balboa blvd, and my 1973 schwinn superior barely made it. A friend blew a tire and we went through 2 pinched tubes trying to reseat the tire, and we still failed :roflmao2: Another friend's seat on his beach cruiser went rogue, and pinched his arse pretty hard:lol:. Our ineptitude, the minor problems that became big problems and eventually screwed our trip over got me thinking, so id like to run an idea by you..

I used to be very involved over at the subaru forums, and we do something every 3 months or so called an "install day" or a "garage day", where a bunch of members in the area and neighboring cities would come by a member's house to help newbies wrench, talk about/show off rides, eat food and make new friends. The community gets closer and people get some real knowledge for life. (maintenance and care on a machine is def. worthy knowledge in my book:D) do we have anything like that go down around here? There are a few things I need to get done on my bike, and id rather learn how to do it so I have that skill set with me.

Throw me some feedback, I think/hope i can handle it.

Nope. BFer of three years Brian has cyclists over to his garage to work on bikes. Just what the OP asked for and it's in Riverside. Not that convenient to ME so I have only been out there once myself.

Are you near Riverside?

Yep. There is a wrenching Forum, too.

Email received.
Yes, the UCR rides are a blast. They have some very strong, competent riders and they're all super-supportive and fun. Tuesday = fast. Thursday = social.

brian! nice meeting you yesterday. thanks for hosting these. I cant believe its that easy to mount tires, I was stressing over nothing. As for the bike rides, once i get the back chain to stop popping, Ill be starting off with the thursday night rides and build up.

vivalaking, welcome to Bike Forums and glad you found the Bike Lounge!

I've missed out on a couple weeks because it's been too hot to ride during the heat of the day. Overheat + bike just kills me.... wish they had portable air conditioners we could just take with us wherever we go.... :)

Cheers,

A
