I'm not just saying self centered, but just plain old arrogant with a big mouth (think T.O. kind of mouth). Maybe I haven't seen enough of other riders to make a fair judgement, but Cavendish gets my vote. I can watch a guy be stand offish and overly self confident (Armstrong) but can't stand to watch Cav or hear him open his mouth.

Why did I know this would either be a bash Armstrong or bash Cav thread? <sigh>

If I was as dominant as Cav in a sprint i'd be talking crap too. He's really just speaking the truth....

How is it arrogant if you can back it up with performance? For Cavendish to say he's the fastest (not the best or strongest) is certainly backed up by the results.

Oh boy, so much for asking a simple question. As far as this:
"how did I know this was a bash Armstrong or bash Cavendish thread?" your post confirmed what I stated- he's arrogant and you just admitted it (Cav). Yes, he can boast, but I'm saying a little humility goes a long way.
As far as Armstrong, I was saying that more tongue in cheek than anything. I think he's confident, I don't think he's arrogant to the degree Cav is to any extent. I actually am a huge Armstrong fan and hope he wins just to quiet the naysayers. It seems so out of fashion to root for Lance these days and I just don't get it. He's a stud, face it.

Oh really, how could I have missed that from your opening post?
He's a stud, face it.
Words that could just as justifiably have come from the words of a Cavendish fanboy.

Cavendish is the most arrogant in the media, but the most grateful in the team bus.
It's not like the man doesn't have a right to be cocky - he's dominating the sprints.

I love Lance, I love Lance, I love Lance, I love Lance, I love Lance, I love Lance
I hate Cav, I hate Cav, I hate Cav, I hate Cav, I hate Cav, I hate Cav, I hate Cav
There, that clear it up for you??

This is what I have read about Cav. Watch him after victories, he gives hugs! Cockiness doesn't bother me at all especially when they back it up.

Cav is one of my favs.
I think he's one of the most exciting guys to watch this year. He can crow all he wants, the kid is a rocket.

It was crystal clear from your first post--but thx anyway.
Something along the lines of this little mantra was what you should have just said in the first place – instead of originally attempting to make it sound like that you are even remotely objective on the subject. Disingenuous much?

Isn't Canvendish the one who never fails to credit his leadout?
To quote Dizzy Dean: It ain't braggin' if you can do it.

Being arrogant, and then backing it up with awesome results gives any rider a psychological advantage over the rest of the playing field.

Man, people on these forums crack me up!! :roflmao2: :roflmao2:
Laminarman, you got OWNED!!!
My vote goes to Lance of course.
Reasoning. He came out with a big fancy press conference talking about how he is gonna win this year and all of that. Now he cant even get his won team to make him team leader.
Today, he dissed Cantador for missing the break, essentially calling him stupid, meanwhile, the only reason Lance made the break was becuase Big George had tipped Lance off about going to the front before the hammer dropped.
Lance proves he is not only arrogant with each passing day, he further looks like an imbecile who is not gracious for surviving cancer.

Half the posters on the Road Cycling Forum are more arrogant than Lance and Mark combined AND can't back it up.

Cav looks like the fryolater operator at Burger King compared to Cipo.
Yeah, Cav is overtly dickish and in-yo-face-competitive, BUT then I see him adore and call out the awesomeness of his set-up men, make sure the media hears their names, pulls them into the camera, hugs them.... He may be a dick, but he KNOWS who gets him in the position to have those bragging rights....

this is the saddest thread ever. someone who loves Lance trying to argue that other riders are arrogant.

I just saw today's interview with Robbie or Frankie or whoever and all Cav could talk about was how great his team was, what a great job they did of getting him to the front and dropping him off to let him do his job. No dickishness at all.

They showed a clip of him from yesterday's stage (within 5km) on this morning's coverage. He was boxed in and just started bashing his body back and forth between the guys book-ending him. Pretty impressive considering he was probably doing 35-40 mph.
He's a scrapper alright.

LOL, thats pretty funny.
Not sure how many people got the irony of that.
Cavendish climbs off his bike and the first thing he does is thank his team, usually with genuine hugs. When he's interviewed, the first thing he does is thank his team, not with some polite formula but with genuine warmth, naming each rider and commenting on what the bloke did. There's no bulldust in this bloke. Rather than being arrogant, he's surprisingly humble ... once you look past the cockiness of youth. In most interviews, he looks more surprised at what's happening around him than anything else.

Did you see Lance's interview today where he yelled at the fans? I can't see Cavendish doing that. Can you?

OK, I'm "owned". Ooooh. I asked a question, I got no answers. It's my opinion about Cav, shoot me. And yeah, the wad who said something about Lance not being gracious about surviving cancer, get a life. Let's see if you've done as much for human kind when your days are done and you're six feet under. I bet not.

cav certainly doesn't sugarcoat anything... i'm surprised no one else has posted this quote from today's stage (#3)...
"All the other teams are riding like they’re juniors and if they want to behave that way then they get results like juniors."
:roflmao2: oh i love it.

certainly wasn't his fans but the French press...which we all know how fair and unbiased they are against lance:roflmao2:;)
I saw nothing wrong with what he did there at all...
oh and on topic with this thread...people need to beable to discern the difference of confidence and arrogance...if I won 85% of my sprints and had only been beaten 3 times this year, had the BEST leadout train ever I'd be pretty damn confident too...basically he can talk all he wants until someone else comes around him.
Chad
OK, this has gone as far as it going to go.
