Besides the Western Flyer I also picked up an old man's Peugeot. It looks a lot like my 70 U-08. It has Mafac brakes and Simplex derailleurs/shifters. There are pump tangs on the top tube and the front lugs are painted black. I believe both front and rear were quick release on Rigida rims It looks very much like the PA-10E, but has the brazed rear rack lugs like the H-50. Are there any Peugeot buffs that can help identify what model/year I have?

Thanks Brad

+1 Need picture, or go to Jim's link and take a look and see if you can find it.

UO8-ish with rack lugs would make a UE8 the most likely candidate but pics would be needed for a positive identification.

Welcome back, T-Mar!:thumb:

The first thing to check is the derailleur hanger, with an integral Simplex tab indicating PA-10 or higher, since the UO-8, UE-8, AO-8, et al. used an adaptor claw.

Here are some pics. The handlebars are covered with electrical tape:eek: I haven't started cleaning it up yet. Went to Jim's site and couldn't find a picture that matched exactly.

Thanks
Brad

It's a lower end bike than a PA because it doesn't have forged dropouts. Likely an early 70's PE series or the like, with the mount on the rear for a generator. Still, I'd fix it, ride it, and love it. :)

Cheers,
Karl

PX8 variant due to the Inoxdable decal.

Thanks guys. What year do you think it is? What is the story behind the Inoxdable decal?

Early 70's, the decal translates to 'stainless' or 'rustless' and means the tubes were treated to help prevent rusting. How were they treated? No clue.
