Cyclocross - Opinions on this 26" crosser design?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I don't want this bike for racing, but I do want the general purpose nature of a crosser, crosser level offroading ability, and exceptional toughness. 26" wheels and a sloping top tube suit me better than 700C and a straight tube (to get an idea of body shape, think of Vic Mackie and make him a little more so - people used to call the Troll when I did messenger work and I've added 30lbs since then, *most* of them muscle) so I'm converting an old Kona Lava Dome - its a great chromolly frame, and the frame dimensions really work for me. I posted in Mechanics about this, but would appreciate comments from youse guys:

The previous 26" crosser I found the article on - see the link in that thread - is really nice, btw! I suppose what I'm aiming at is a Tricross but more so, and perhaps rather tougher, a general purpose and exploration bike, winter trainer, etc. The Cotic Roadrat would be an even nearer match.

I've got something similar to this that I've built/building. I'm basing mine off an older '87 Bianchi Grizzly frameset. Not exactly the lightest of bikes, but one of the strongest. I think it's a great idea.

Strength, yes. Plus 26's feel much agile too me - you can really throw the Kona around and there's not a trace of it wanting to go out of control. It's probably the more circular contact patch.
