Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Looking to get some new tires as my Maxxis are worn through..anyone recommed a set around $30 each or so?
Performance has the Hutchison Carbons on sale for $25.. but kidna rated as "racing" but i dunnno if it matters. I like slicks and tht's waht I've been using.. but wouldn't mind trying out something with some tread for wet conditions. I go on some fast group rides, but i ain't no pro racer by any means.. I liked the Maxxis tires.. didn't have many flats.
I ride mostly road shoulders.. an occasional train track. 18-miles each way, good rollers and flats.. average speed about 18.6mph
suggestions?

I highly recommend the Specialized Armidillos. I finally wore through the outer layer today on my back tire after 3000+ miles. These tires are as indestructible as it gets. I just don't flat with these tires.
Yeah, either the Armadillos or the Continental Ultra Gatorskins. I have a set and love them! I'll be adding them to my new bike soon.
First of all, tread males no difference in the rain. Even wide bicycle tires are still narrow enough to avoid hydroplaning. Tread is good to have in snow, jowever.
What size tires do you want to use? I've found Schwalbe Marathon Plusto be the most puncture-resistant tire out there. The narrowest size is 622-28 and the price is $41 so it may not be what you are looking for.

I just got a set of these today from performance bike, $9.99 each with the 20% discount made for a heck of a cheap set of tires.

i'm confused.. does having any tread benefit on damp roads?
I just like riding on slicks for rolling resistance and speed.. i'm cautious when it rains.. but how well does tread help on pavement after its rained.. without standing water, etc.
