Northeast - Manetto Hill Roadies...what's the story?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I work off of Sunnyside Blvd. My commute when I drive takes me from the Northern State exit on Manetto Hill Rd to Sunnyside. In that short stretch, I often see a few roadies (sometimes alone, sometimes in groups) traveling north toward the LIE shortly before 9am.
What makes this a common route? Is this a club ride? Is it just a convenient route to the LIE service road?
Just curious.
The LIE service roads get interrupted by the 135 interchange, so the cyclists you see are probably heading up north to Woodbury Road to navigate around it.

Several bike clubs use Westbury HS on Post Rd as a staging area for rides going East. I have only ridden with them on weekends, and not at all this year, but on Saturdays and Sundays they used to leave at about 7 or 7:30.
The route goes East on the South service road to the 135 interchange, then down onto Woodbury Rd North to Sunnyside and over to Executive (the South Service Rd). Depending on speed and start time, 8 is about the time you would go through where you describe. Then they follow the South service to Crooked Hill Rd and head back.
The return trip through the 135 goes through a small neighborhood at the bottom of Sunnyside.

The 2 detours for the missing service road at the LIE/135 interchange is either Sunnyside Blvd to Woodbury Rd., or Sally Lane, directly opposite the NSP exit for Manetto Hill Rd. to Summit Dr., then back to Sunnyside and the service road.
In addition to all the east/west service road riders, there's often an 8:30 AM group out of the Bethpage Library that will often be coming thru here 8:50 ish, for the LIE or up to Syosett via Piquets.

That makes sense. So it looks like they're just passing through the neighborhood to get around the 135 interchange. That explanation is so obvious that I'm embarrassed that I had to ask.
Thanks, everyone.
