Southern California - here i come :)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am leaving Monday from New York and driving my car all the way down to San Clemente, my new home.
I really like how you guys live in Cali. So much more laid back and such a better quality of life.
Anyway I am really excited to move there and I cant wait to hop on my bike and get to know the area.
I saw a lot of cyclists from my balcony riding through San Clemente so I guess there must be a bike trail going through. It is very motivating to see this from the balcony.
I would like to eventually ride my bike to San Diego and back if this is possible without riding on the 5.
I know there is a huge military base that is in my way but I was just wondering if there is any way that you can get through without going on the 5.
I know I am asking a lot of questions but since the West Coast people are more chill I guess it wont be a problem.
So I am going to be stationed in San Clemente (i know I said it like 10 times), I am just looking for places to ride my bike without getting lost. If you can suggest some places please do. I will offer free water refills in return and occasional home made cookies. :) That is in San Clemente :D

Laid back? No, that's Hawaii. Chill, yes.

Camp Pendleton is the marine base you're talking about. Last time I checked, it was open to cyclist (bring your ID). I believe there is a phone number or website you can check to confirm if it's still open. I'm sure someone will post the link/number or you can just google it.
There are south to north directions through the base here: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=558620

Since you're a resident now, you have to stop calling it "Cali."

hey thank you guys for the welcoming... i already feel home and I really really love my new state, and this is right after traveling through Europe with a rental car. I went to Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia (my home sweet home) and I was set to move to Barcelona but then I went to Cali and fell in love with it. There is so much to do there and explore. I was just there 3 weeks ago and drove all the way to northern Cali to Sierra mountains which is just breathtaking. I went to Yosemite National Park, Mono Lake and Lake Tahoe and passed through Reno Nevada. I love San Diego by the way. :)
There is just so many beautiful landscapes and it feels great to get away from all the buildings in NY.
I am also really looking forward to my cross country ride. I hope to make the best out of the trip even though I will be going all alone with 3 bikes strapped to the roof.
It is pretty tough though just getting up and moving and leaving all your family and friends behind.
My sister just had a baby and my mom is crying because I am leaving so it is really tough. I wish I could just take everyone with me.
So what I do when I feel sad is just look at the pictures I took when I was in Cali and my whole mood just lightens up. Beach and palm trees just make me smile :)

That's three times! Are you trying to provoke me?:)
Northern Californians talk slower than us. Maybe they're the laid back ones.

Actually, since he hasn't officially "arrived" yet he still isn't a resident so he can keep calling it "Cali" for a day or 2 more.
After that however... :injured:
