I rode today. I am at our condo at 9,600 feet in the Colorado Rockies. I rode from Frisco to Breckenridge and back - only about 20 miles. All uphill getting there, and then a ferocious headwind on the way back as a front moved in so I had to peddle downhill. No fair!

As I got back into Frisco, the Ride the Rockies crowd of 2,000 bikers was coming through on their next to last day.

I had very mixed feelings. I did the RTR when I was 58 and 59 yo in 1998 and 1999 - then had some health and other critical concerns, and haven't ridden it since.

I am just not sure that at 64 yo I could do it again. Wife says SURE you can. Nice to have a supportive wife.

Anyway, I felt as if I had had a "Passage."

I think that next year I will be in such good shape by June that I will know I can RTR, whether or not I actually do it. That would make me feel great.

Anyone else had some passages in your biking life?

Had one last night. Went for the Wednesday night ride with the local bike club and kept up with the group. The first time ever. I guess all the workouts and training I've been doing for the past year is finally starting to pay off.

Next year, McKenzie Pass. All the way to the top.

That is really neat. Made my day after feeling just a bit forlorn. Good job - onward and upward - literally. :D

January 1, 2004. First training ride of the year, and I had been doing spin classes all winter, but the temp was up into 70s that day. Instead of falling to the rear on Marshland Rd., where everyone starts to bear down hard, I kept up, then started leading out the group.

When the normal Tuesday rides started after Daylight Savings Time began, I've been keeping up with most ever since. :D
