I have a pair on my mtb but i have no idea how to use them. Do you use them when climbing, riding flats? How are you supposed to use them?

Use them whenever you feel like it, there are really no rules. The only time I really use them is to stretch out when I am on the road in straight areas. I find they also protect my hands from trees and stuff when mountain biking.

When you're out of the saddle and climbing or sprinting, you'll find yourself naturally grabbing onto the barends for comfort and power.

I hung my dirty socks on them (back when I still had my MTB with bar ends).
They are also good as can openers.

You can hang groceries from it. If you're traveling at the same speed as your tailwind, they also make good candle holders.
Or conversely, make sure they're pointed straight forward so when you run into one of those punk kids on the trail, they get impaled.
