So...I'm sitting at my desk this morning waiting on reports to finish. Start cruising you tube looking for some tunes. Then I get the idea....who would make the best concert you can imagine....one that would truly rock and you would remember it till the day you kick the bucket.
Me: The Cult opening for Tesla. Both of these bands rock like very few. Tesla is just incredible. Both bands are more about the music rather than putting on some silly show like so many do these days. This is what rock should be, imo.

Grand Funk Railroad in 1972 at the Coliseum in Seattle. It was like riding in a convertible 'vette at 200 mph for two hours. I will never forget that show. Santana just a couple of months later was up there, too.

BB King opening for Pink Floyd
The only reason I want BB King to open is because when PF is done, I'll be to mellowed out for BB King.

If dead people are allowed...you know like "all-time".....
Then it would be:
The Allman Brothers (including Duane) with special guest BB King
opening for Pink Floyd

That'd be a good one. I just saw that Flogging Molly is playing Red Rocks in September. I might have to catch that one if possible.
Barry Manilow and Cannibal Corpse.

I saw that too. I saw them in 2002 I think. They played in a park in FoCo. 500 fans all singing along, 1 day after Johnny Cash died. That was one helluva show.

A few years back I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd opening for ZZ Top.
I would prefer pre-plane crash Skynyrd, but it was one rocking evening.
Almost anyone opening followed by Pink Floyd... I never did see them, although I have seen Roger Waters. BB King would be a great opener.
Also, in a mellow mood, I would love to see a concert of some of the crooners... Maybe Frank Sinatra opening for Nat King Cole... But, I suspect Frank wouldn't open for anybody. ;)

And I can't forget my country side...
A three act concert...
Junior Brown, Dwight Yoakam and Hank Williams Sr.

I saw Prince a few years ago...he didn't need an opening band.
Warrant opened up for Alice Cooper about a year ago...that was an amazing show.
I'd like to see Jack Johnson open up for Barenaked Ladies.
Ooooh! Jamiroquai head off for Stevie Wonder!

I've never seen Queen, but I have seen David Bowie....it was one of the most amazing concerts I've ever seen. I think he did about 5 or 6 encores. He played for about 2 1/2-3 hours total.

Seeing Douglas Adams jam with Pink Floyd.
It happened, and I wish I had been there.

I've seen a few really good ones back in my college days....haven't been to a show in many years.
Some of the great shows I've seen were by Rush, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Ozzy and Ted Nugent.
The best single performance I've ever seent though was when I was standing against the stage at a Joe Satriani show. That joker flat out rocked the house.
The best opening performance I ever saw was when Queensryche opened...they played the Operation Mindcrime disc song for song. They were very tight.
One guy that really impressed me was Hank Williams Jr. He played a number of instruments and did outstanding on each. It was a great show.
Emmylou Harris and The Hot Band* — Ramones — Elvis Costello and the Attractions — The Chieftans.
I'd have them draw straws for playing order.
Get the local symphony orchestra in to play backup on some of the tunes, and for the follow-on fireworks show.

George Clinton. Didn't need an opener. Small college venue. My friends and I got way too drained and left 4 hours into the show that was still going...
Queen opening for Bowie would be a great one too.

Pearl Jam in Hawaii circa 1991 or 1992. Awesome!
My wife saw the Lolla with Soundgarden, RHCP, Rage, Pearl Jam, Ministry and some others. What a lineup.

I've rarely seen a double bill that was as good as a single bill. No matter how complimentary the acts should be, it seems that juxtaposing them only serves to highlight their differences, and rarely to good effect.
Nine Inch Nails opening for David Bowie in 1994? FAIL
Living Color opening for The Rolling Stones in 1990? FAIL
Al Stewart opening for Renaissance in 1975? FAIL
Elvin Bishop opening for Frank Zappa in 1974? TOTAL HUMILIATING ABJECT FAIL
Therefore, the best double bill I ever saw would have to be Young Snakes opening up for The Dark at Jack's in Cambridge, MA sometime around 1980. Young Snakes was Aimee Mann's angular art-punk trio before she formed 'Til Tuesday, and The Dark was a prog/funk/avant-rock that later (after this particular double bill) had Reeves Gabrels (Bowie/Tin Machine) on guitar. And Jack's was a complete ****hole of a club on Mass.Ave.

'92 Lollapalooza was RHCP, Ministry, Soundgarden, Ice Cube, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, and Lush (might be missing a band there)
Rage was one of the early afternoon acts on the '93 Lolla with Primus, Arrested Development, Alice In Chains, Fishbone, and others.

He played the guitar.
He was invited to play as part of his 42nd Birthday celebration:
