Advocacy & Safety - How to find accident details in Chicago?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In the summertime, everybody is out on their bikes commuting in Chicago. Problem is 95% of them do the following:

1) Cycle in the door zone
2) Wear no helmets
3) Disregard traffic signals and stop signs
4) Use sidewalk when no bike lanes exist

My question is there must be dozens off accidents everyday as a result of this. Is there some kind of police database one can search to find out how many occur per day and details about them?

What accident would be the *result* of wearing no helmet?

The one where they have to call an ambulance vs. the one where you get up and walk away from.

I would suspect there are far more pedestrian/motorist incidents than anything involving bikes.

Bike portland blog has a tool to submit incidents/accidents. Why not borrow what they created and start your own?

Just make up your own statistics to fit your predetermined conclusions. Or you could devise a "study" to provide the same.

My predetermined conclusion is that dozens of accidents occur everyday, but only 10% of them require ambulances.

Whether valid or not, this statement is unrelated to my question of which accidents are caused by a lack of helmet use.

You forgot to add that you have already concluded that some of those ambulance trips would have been unecessary but for the failure of the cyclist to wear a foam hat.
