I just bought a Trek 7100 Custom Alpha Aluminum Hybrid bicycle. The guy at the bike shop said to bring the bike back about after riding 30-50 miles. My question is do Aluminum bike require more maintenance and more visits to the bike shop than other bikes? Is this required under warrantyor is it something bikeshops like to do? Im new to the bikeshop thing. :)

No, the visit after 30-50 miles is for routine maintence on the componets. Cables stretch, causing a loss of shifting and braking performance. The service should be free, so take it in.

Yes, cables do stretch and things can work loose. My dealer said to do my tuneup at 100 miles or thereabouts. He checked all of the cables and touched up the derailleurs a bit. Retorqued the chaintring mounting bolts, checked the spoke tension and even touched up the wheels a bit for trueness. It was all free and gave me peace of mind knowing that nothing was going to come loose or fall off over the next few hundred miles. The next tuneup is scheduled for 1000 miles. I've already got 200 on the bike. He is the best dealer I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. This dealer did it of his own volition.
