Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Popped my 1st Spoke

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. After 1300 miles of riding I finally popped a spoke. Now I'm wondering I have 1200 miles on my 38's and no problems and less than 150 miles on my 28's I have a popped spoke. I popped from the hub area. Could this be related to my new thinner tires.

When you say "28" and "36" are you talking about number of spokes per wheel or tire width?
If you are talking about tire width, 28mm wide tires are not excessively narrow, IMHO. Possibly exacerbated by having inadequate spoke tension.
If you are talking about number of spokes then "YES" that is a big part of why you broke a spoke. Possibly exacerbated by having inadequate spoke tension.
Sorry, I was talking about tire width.

I doubt it has to do with the width at all. Plenty of wheels will start popping about 1500 miles when they ar not propely tensioned. AT the hub which means they were wigglin' around in the little hole, and like a wire that is bent over and over like we did in elemtary school, it finally snapped like a stale pretzel.
I'd bet you didn't have the spokes retensioned at about 3 or 400 hundred miles. If you did, then find a new shop cause the wheel guy sucks!
Most wheels start popping about 1500 miles. Maybe 3,000 if you're lucky. If it's taken proper care, it will last 20,000 miles.
1500 is about right. That's shy I get a kick out of those posters that post durabilty reports on riders that post after 200 miles!:roflmao2:
Try posting after a good retension at 300 miles and again after 15000 miles!:thumb:
Again, if it broke at the hub, it's a tension prollem!
THanks Mr. Beanz! You're right I haven't had them retensioned since I bought it.

GRRRR!....That's a big issue with Clydes. Really kind of tough too cause shop dudes will whine and cry about having to do it. They just wanna true it and kick you on the but on your way out as you walk out happy that it's straight. NOt good enough!
Problem is now that even if ou replace the broken spoke, some of the others may be in danger of popping at this point. Maybe even while replacing and tweaking the new one. Retensioing makes a huge difference when it comes to wheel life.
Is iet me or doews my typing suck?:p
