I posted this in the triathlon forum, but I thought I'd also post it here in case my weight factors into it.

I recently got a new time trial / triathlon bike. I have only had it a week, but I noticed every time I get into the aero position, my dick goes numb within thirty seconds to three minutes.

The bike is a Specialized Comp. The seat is pretty comfortable except when in aero position. My nutsack goes a bit numb too, but the dick is the thing I notice the most.

Is this normal? Should I worry? I weigh 225pounds, does that factor into it at all?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

That should say Specialized Transition Comp. My bad.

first off, a TT/tri bike is no good for you, if it is a 56 cm send it to me to properly dispose of :). Secondly, check the levelness of your seat, you may need to tilt it down a tad...thirdly, I assume you are wearing cycling shorts. I know sometimes I need to pull my junk up and out of the way before I go into the drops. it sounds like a fit issue

I used to have the same problem every time I stayed in the saddle for a long time on my road bike. I tried adjusting the saddle and bars and it only stopped when I changed the saddle to one that had a flatter tail section on which to rest my arse.

As someone said, you might want to consider the saddle angle first.

Tilting the saddle nose down on a regular bike is usually not effective because it puts extra pressure on your hands to keep you from sliding forward, but since your weight is resting on your arms and shoulders the saddle on an aero bike can be pointed slightly nose down.

Sounds like you may need someone to help you with fit, or you may need to purchase a triathlon-specific saddle. Numbness should definitely be dealt with ASAP... unless you like the prospect of long-term damage resulting from reduced blood flow to those "important parts". The guys over at SlowTwitch.com (http://www.slowtwitch.com/) can probably help you find a Tri-knowledgeable fitter or Tri-specific saddle.
