I want to say thank you to all of you who have posted about trunk racks. I learned after my last trip (I took the bike apart and put it in the car) that a rack is necessary. So today I decided since I have another trip coming up that I wanted to take the bike but not have it in pieces. So I did some searching on here. Your knowledge led me to go to Spokes, Etc and purchase a Saris Bones RS 3 bike rack. This leaves one space in the event it is needed one day (can not have kids...so you can save those comments). The rack is really secure and I love that there are no straps all over the trunk. I have the protection package on my 09 Jetta TDI Sedan so I have both rubber feet on the side of the trunk, but it is not going anywhere. They only charged me $260.99...so I do not feel cheated on the price. Plus it will work on my wife's Explorer...its a twofer.

So for those who are looking for a trunk rack...I would look no further...worth the money 100%. Thank you guys for the information.

BTW, I am up over 390 miles on the bike since May (had quite a few days I could not bike due to work).

I've also got the Bones RS and you're right, it's a great rack. Very solid, secure, and simple & and quick to get on and off. It's worked on a Honda Accord, a Mazda Protege, and a Toyota Highlander so far...it's been very versatile. Highly recommended.

I am usually on the road...out of town for work. I want to have my bike with me to ride so I do not have those hard withdraws. The rack is so I do not have to take the front wheel and fender off to get it in my Jetta.

ahh, makes a little more sense now. still, didn't expect it in this forum. i like how little space the bones takes up when off the trunk... seems like the rs would be taller when folded up...
