2 back packs, 2 duffle bags, 2 camelbaks, 2 bikes, both our gear, helmts and body armor, shoes, etc. Thank god for fold down rear seats!

did u check Saris' website? not sure what they have for rooftops, if any, but good stuff, reasonably priced.....

None, zilch, saris, thule, yakima... I have a saris bones, but it barely barely fits over the wing. :(

Times like this make me wish Subaru made the Baja, which would be perfect for this type of stuff. You can stuff your items in the bed, your bikes up top or on a hitch mount, and a backseat for more than two people.

Have you chatted with fellow Mits owners? That's how I found out about the bolt-on roof rack for my Mazda3...no drilling required. Are there molding strips on your roof? My Mazda had the female threads under the strips. I found this out on the MZ3 forum...wouldn't have known otherwise.

The baja is the dumbest car ever. The bed is too tiny to put anything into and if you get the little topper for it, the space is still slightly less than an Outback.

We have a Baja, and we've loved it. Clearly, the Baja isn't for everyone, and it's particularly difficult for most people to understand the vehicle's usefulness because the closest thing they can think of is something like a pickup truck -- and the Baja isn't a pickup truck.

We own a duplex rental property -- we're constantly carrying ladders, work tools, yard maintenance stuff. With our Baja we regularly carry: 20 bales of pine straw, the lawnmower to the service center, a washer and a dryer, a fridge standing up... and any number of small loads.

We regularly carry three bikes and three people... it's super easy. And there's nothing better than knowing you're not going to get a even a minute trace of the gasoline you're carrying... inside your car.

The Baja handles beautifully with its all wheel drive. I routinely get 26mpg on my commute (30mpg on highway trips) with my naturally aspirated automatic --

Again, is the Baja for everyone -- clearly not. But these types of vehicles are used all over the world, except here, and are the perfect vehicle for a certain kind of lifestyle. That 26mpg looked pretty good. I may stand corrected about the Baja.

I wish people didn't feel the need for massive amounts of power. I used to drive an old Chevy S-10 that got 30-35 mpg on the highway. That was pretty sweet. Sure, it didn't have much power, but it would still cruise at 75 all day.

Just take it slow on any incline, even moderate ones. My driveway isn't bad but the apron is somewhat abrupt. If I have weight loaded inside the back of my Mazda, the Hidden Hitch scrapes if I don't take it real slow backing out.
