Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Where are the real riders?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This forum is like watching Emo-nerds buy vinyl at a vintage records store: all lot of chest-puffing, no action. Everyone talks a good game, but no one really ever says much about biking. I have found the basic formula:
1: Thread Start - Track/Fix/Ride related topic
2: Initial Response - Bike related
3: Following Response - somewhat bike related
4: Following Response - lame ass comment
5: Following Response - lame comment, etc
Check out the Track Sub Forum. Relevant, thoughtful, no whining or stupid-assed insight that is so off target it would get you killed if you said it face to face.

Just checked my calander. Yep, schools out for the summer.
like I said before; there's really not a whole lot of FG/SS specific topics to post about
a person can read into the whole 'fixie' 'thing' all they want, but in the end, a bike is a bike is a bike, and riding is riding, regardless of the type of bike.
Besides, how many 'after 6 months, my fixie is complete, took her out for the first time and nearly got bucked off!' stories can you really read?

I don't recall reading anything insightful from you regarding your bike or your experiences with fixed, only the lame ass comments. So when you have something of substinance pertaining to fixed or track riding, maybe then we'll respond in kind. Or perhaps, like you, we'll just skip items 1 through 4 and head straight to #5.

you're asking where the real riders are??? as you sit in front of a computer...humm.
actually, the very point of my post is that there's not a whole lot of 'insightful' or meaningful requests to which one can respond.
When I do contribute to Fixed-related topics, it's typically to help explain mechanics or alternative solutions, because I feel the typical, ubiqitous link to sheldon is a lazy, and sometimes inadequate, response, and solutions which simply involve throwing money at a problem are short-sighted.
However, most posts on this board, much like your very response to my post, are not seeking useful or insightful information. Perhaps if you spent more time perusing meaningful posts, rather than seeking NYC shopping destinations, you would be more familiar with my experiences and contributions.
Of course, I do not expect you to have gained any insight into my past or experience based upon this response, though your last sentence has provided me a great deal of insight into you and your cognition (or lack thereof).
Peace out,
Steve

Thankyou for providing evidence of something already known. I was insulting you, not the Wrench. Considering the entire content of my post was directly rebutting the content of your own, I presumed you at least had enough intelligence to infer direction. I was obviously wrong.

Just to clarify things a little bit here...
From reading your original response it seemed as if you were responding to The Wrench's post, not my response to his post. My understanding of your comment about the NYC shopping destinations was you were regarding that post as one of the less meaningful ones on this forum. Yes, it wasn't a post about gear inches or frame material or crank length suggestions. It was merely a post to those in NYC who could refer me to some fixie-friendly shops. That's all. It wasn't an attempt to prove how fixie-knowledgeable I am. There is much more I can learn.
After rereading my original response, I cannot conclude how or where you got the idea I was responding to you. My post was merely trying to state the fact that from what I've read, The Wrench has had very little insightful and meaningful posts and /or responses regarding fixed gear riding. They were mostly insulting and rude comments. Perhaps if you reread The Wrench's post and then mine, it would clear things up.
I do not expect to gain any insight into yours or anyone else's past from their posts on this forum. From what I've read of most of your posts, you do know what you're talking about.

I don't know I ride as much or more as I post, usually the forum is a way for me to unwind after a long day off work. My commute takes 1 hour or more, depending on conditions, but on my day off I usually spend 1-4 hours on my bike just tooling around. I just like the forum as a way to unwind/sit down, because except for the saddle, I am on my feet 10-15 hours a day.
Maybe I am a poser, I wont deny it, I have 10+ bikes no license and commute year round. So what if we end up acting a little silly in a few of our posts, who the pluck cares? What are you the friggin SS/FG hall monitor?

Just a drive by troll. Seriously I am a poser, I don't ride more than 50 miles a week most of the time. True I don't own a car and i ride in the snow but I'm not a rider, im someone who rides as an alternative means of transportation.
My bikes are my cars. There, I confessed, see how much better than me you are? So where do I go if only real riders are allowed to use this forum?

oh crap...I have a bike that costs less than the taj mahal, and I don't wear the clothes...and I don't know why I should give a crap about what cables I use...OMFG I AM A POSER....
oh well....really this who is real crap gets nowhere...usually it's some guy who got mad because he refuses to RTFM, and instead takes his rage and poitns it in te wrong place...wseen this crap on too many other boards.
Bah, jsut ride...anyone who talks crap about what level of riing you do can go back under whatever rock they crawled out of.
So far my fat arse has embarrassed a few before...one was some guy who was talking carp about me possibly going into cardiac over riding 15mph....i guess my 30mph sprint on a mountain bike and not even on my 44tooth chainring yet gave him a bit of embarrassment....when I slowed down he wasnt in the pack he was riding with anymore... I may not ride an expensive bike...I may not even dress the part, and the way i set my bike up as a commuter may have killed whatever biker cred I had...but you know what...it's all about your own personal goals...not some tanner posting after his bedtime on an internet message board.

> Where are the real riders?

Now that's testy...
What's kind of unfortunate is that prior to this thread, Wrench had started to make some cogent posts instead of humping everyone's leg. Personalities aside, pretty much everyone I've come across here has some contribution, even if it's only to act as a warning to others. Gally99 had made some good informative posts and it's unfortunate that he/she opted to stop posting.
If you don't like community chat threads, then start ones that are meaningful to you. Don't like the members, plenty of other forums. Feel the need to demean others in order to give meaning to your otherwise pointless life - have at it: I can use the ignore functions...

What's a "hipster"? I'm 36 and ride a fixed gear to work, am i hip? Seriously i think my kids might be wrong, i am cool. Around here a fixed gear bike is plain weird, riding a bike to work is for alcoholics who lost thier license. I had no idea that "cool" people ride these bicycles.

Classic TROLL.
Have you gotten everything you needed from this thread yet boyo? You know what I mean. You suffer from text book psycology 101 disorders. Your self esteem is low and you lack confidence. Do you even ride a bike? Or are you one of those people that beep and swerve at riders expecting the same kind of response as you expect trolling on this forum.
