Hi all!
I am 45, 6'5" tall and weigh about 340 or so. I own a GT Palomar that I bought back in 2000. I rode it all over Burning Man that year, and since it has sat in the garage.
In my 20s I used to ride everywhere, and straight bars didn't bother me. Once, a friend of mine left his bike at my house so I rode it over to his, and he had riser bars on it. I was amazed at the comfort at the time.
With this in the back of my mind, I decided to put 5" riser Townie bars on my bike. Sudden;y, my hands start to really hurt after a few hundred yards! With the straight bar I never had hand issues at all, save no options for different hand positions.
I have read the threads here about "pins and needles" and all of them suggest raising the bars/lowering the seat. Why is it I am getting that effect AFTER doing that?
I am considering going with touring bars, like those on a European commuter bike, or something like the Nitto Albatross.
As a last resort I could go with my old bars and bar ends, I suppose, but I do like being able to look around more easily.
