I bought a synapse 7 in march and regretted the purchase a month later (after I started racing)...
I called them yesterday to ask about the cannondale frame trade in deal and found out that it's not that good of a deal if your attempting to trade in a brand new frame. Sooo what I found out was that rei has a 100% satisfaction guarantee 8 ) 8 ) I asked if they could even order a caad9-6 for me and they can and did! I'm stoked!!
Not much point to this thread other than to brag about my official bf race bike ; )
..down side is that I may have to postpone any racing for 2-3 weeks
thanks

Nor did your post make any sense whatsoever...learn to write (or have) coherent thoughts:)

How does it not make sense? The OP is comparing REI's "100% satisfaction guarantee" (which netted him a new bike) to the notorious Nordstrom guarantee.

I meant to start a thread a few days ago about how happy I've been with REI's bike shop, but I was too lazy and forgot, so I'll post in this one.
I called literally every LBS in town to find a replacement spoke for my Ultegra SL wheel set. REI was the only place that had it in stock and they only charged me $1 per spoke, when the other shops were quoting $5 per spoke to order them. Also, they give me free cable crimps whenever I ask and they sold me a used wheel for my trash bike for $10. REI is win.
I had a bike like beaten up the other day (they couldn't cut it with a pocket knife so they took a hammer to the locking part). I ended up having to cut the lock off to get my bike. I took the horribly damaged lock back to REI and they swapped it out for a brand new one just like that. The best part being I bought the lock in March of last year.
Yeah they charge you through the ass, but they treat their customers right.

REI. I love the place. I buy tons of stuff there KNOWING they have the 100% guarantee.
however, know this. There is a black list. Dont abuse it. I dont know nor can I get clarification on how far to go to get listed, but they do a good job policing their own employees from abusing even their discount (which is very generous).
On a side note. I love REI.
It's Nordstrom. No "s" at the end.
Know your department stores....

Probably because you don't know what you're talking about.

Doesn't sound outlandish... Many retailers keep tabs on customer returns and warranty claims. Target is one example. You can only return so many items without a receipt before you're "listed" and will not be allowed returns (they use your driver's license)

My mother-in-law calls Target Target's and Walmart Walmart's.

Let me see if I understand you correctly...you bought a lock, it performed as expected, saved you from having your bike stolen, and then you took it back for a new one at no charge. On what grounds did you ask for the exchange? That it worked, so you deserve a new one for free?

REI is awesome if you love paying full retail price.

Obviously you know more than I. <sarcasm off>
Believe what you want. Its just that being a lowly team member doesnt get you in the 'know' for the ins and outs of how that program works.

Thank you. That bugs the heck out of me.

Um, he absolutely knows what he's talking about.
REI very much flags accounts of people who are abusing the return policy as it amounts to retail fraud. I wouldn't worry too much about it, as it takes quite a lot to get to that point, and the people that do it are very aware of what they're doing.
That said, the habitual returners and "upgraders" do eventually get a "Do not shop here anymore" letter. The letter is interesting and basically says that REI apparently cannot meet your needs because you return everything you buy a year later, etc.
I don't want to out myself and say how I know this, but I'll tell you that it was not on the letter receiving end.
That said, OP, congrats. It is a satisfaction guarantee. It sounds like you were not satisfied, so it's really why they have the guarantee.

Nordstrom fell off the top as a great dept. store retailer because of that "the customer is always right no matter what" mentality.
Don't get me wrong, I'm an American and I definitely love "the customer is always right". But sometimes I have to wonder how far the abuse goes before the company who has such guarantees puts an end to them.

I'd also like to add for this guy...
Don't be such a asshat to people. You never know when you're wrong. I have absolute first-hand experience with this issue.
fail.

I actually brought it in and told them someone messed with it bad enough to render it unusable and if they had any replacement policy in which I could return the busted lock for a discount on a new one since the manufacturer didn't care. They said it was no issue, they were glad my bike wasn't stolen, and replaced it straight up.

You know, I owe milnerpt and malpag3 an apology. Obviously you know a great deal and you deserve some respect. Which is why you each have such a chip on your shoulder and freely will call someone else "lowly" or "asshat". Not just anyone can do that.
Now that I have deferred to your knowledge and status, I'll tell you that your words amount to little other than a scare tactic-like warning to others.
Should we all refrain from returning product because big brother is looking over our shoulder, just waiting to revoke our privilege to shop from REI, leaving us to have to choose amongst lesser retailers?
As someone else said, REI = full retail price or often prices higher than those of other retailers for the same product. Could it be that we all pay more up front because that purchase comes with a satisfaction guarantee that we are now being ominously warned we should be careful about using?

Holy crap people on this forum are crazy. :crash:
(this impulse crept into my head several times today but I was too lazy to post it. Don't know why this put me over the top but it did. Probably walmart versus walmarts. Who gives a sh*t???)

OK - but thanks for your subsequent explanation of what happened, specifically that you didn't get a new lock "just like that."

I felt sorta bad even thinking about asking if they would take it back after 1500 miles, but they were extremely helpful and that helped me not feel so bad about the ordeal!

I went to REI with a friend who was looking for hiking boots. He brought a pair that he purchased at REI 3 years prior as an example of what he was not looking for because the design of the upper had given him blisters around his ankle. The sales person told him he would get a refund on the original pair because of the "complete satisfaction guarantee." That's pretty amazing in today's world.

Wow, clearly you're also illiterate. I replied in kind to your un-helpful and un-informed response, as it was completely and utterly untrue. I worked at REI's customer service desk for about a year, so yeah, I'm qualified to say that the guy thinking there is a blacklist is correct. Overall I worked at REI about three years and I've only seen three instances of this kind of issue coming up. I don't feel like I'm pulling a "I'm so much cooler than you card" (it's retail for christs sake), but it is the kind of background that gives ME and not YOU a qualification to respond to such an inquiry. Sorry, but I don't go around making bold statements about things I have absolutely no knowledge of.
However, I also clarified that it's not quite a blacklist and it's not anything that your average customer should worry about because the people who are flagged are actual retail fraudsters who know exactly what they're doing and are operating on the multiple thousands of dollars scale. Sorry I didn't want to out myself in the off chance there's some sort of ridiculous company policy about sharing information like that, but screw it. The percentage of people that abuse the satisfaction guarantee is so minuscule that it isn't an issue for them.
You epitomize everything wrong with some of the posters here. You offered a one line, un-qualified quip to someone that offered absolutely no help or insight into anything at all. Then you turn it around when someone calls you out on your b/s, so yep, I freely call bull****ers asshats.
So yep, you're an asshat. I hope you learn to read my full post in the interim, otherwise I can recommend some continuing education and literacy programs in your area.
