Anyone ridden on River Road across the GW lately? Just wondering the condition of the road. In years past it has had a lot of potholes and rockslides have also been an issue. Also does anyone know the roundtrip distance from CP or better yet from the Brooklyn Bridge?

I was on River Road last Sunday. It was fine, though rough in a few sections, especially on the hill to Alpine. It's about 8 miles from the southern end in Fort Lee to Alpine. It's about 6.75 miles from my apartment on W. 74th to the GWB, and maybe another 6 miles or so from W. 74th to the Brooklyn Bridge. Round trip from W. 74th is about 32 miles.

Thanks. I plan to descend the southern side, which is always the one I worry about as you can do some serious damage if there are potholes. If the ascent to Alpine is a little potholy I can deal.

I always approach from the south because the descent from Alpine Approach is dicey and I like to pedal through descents so the one time I did it I did NOT have fun.
