i occasionally ride from brooklyn into manhattan GWB into jersey then up 9W to bear mountain crossing the bear mountain bridge into westchester and come down east of the hudson on the 9A into the bronx, manhattan and brooklyn again. it's a nice ride. a bit over 100miles.

i found this route and it worked fine except of a oneway in the bronx and a few construction detours.

Johannes....That century sounds like a nice spin. I have ridden much of it while in search of the ever elusive striped bass when they are running in the spring....but on my motorcycle. I'll have to give that a try...how many hours did the ride take you?

Riding up to Bear Mt is a great adventure, and that route has some interesting ideas for going thru Westchester county.
It includes the helpful little point about leaving rt 9 to go thru the village of Dobbs ferry, but also some bigger ideas:
Like going inland thru Briarcliff Manor and Rockefeller State Park - (instead of staying on rt 9 thru Ossining + Sleepy Hollow, not my favorite section for riding close to the River). I'm intrigued to explore that.

Further north that route also goes inland by Blue Mountain Reservation (and avoids Buchanan and Croton-on-Hudson). There my feeling is that I know I really like the river views at the Peekskill train station and Verplanck Point and the Croton River marsh -- so I'm less interested in alternative there, but maybe I'll try it just for something different.

The other big thing about that route is that is goes in the counter-clockwise direction, starting north up thru Westchester county - (opposite to how I've always ridden it). I guess the advantage of that direction is that the riding thru Westchester tends to be more difficult, so it "gets it over with" first. But there are two disadvantages:
(a) Assuming you ride on the right side of the road, you are farther from the views of the river;
(b) I think the section on rt 6 / 202 between Peekskill and the Bear Mt Bridge is more dangerous riding north-bound, because you're going uphill (slower) thru the tight curves with possibly questionable visibility and often lots of motor traffic. (and less time to enjoy the great views because those would be taken downhill).
Actually there is a way to ride from Peekskill to the Bear Mt Bridge which completely avoids that high=traffic section of rt 202 / 6, but it also misses the great view over the River.So I think I'll stick with riding the loop clockwise.
