Has anyone found a do-it-yourself replacement for helmet foam pads? Something I can use to fabricate new pads out of, rather than trying to obtain them from the helmet maker. My Stoker and I have helmets that are in great shape except for the foam pads.

Would it be better to just replace the helmet? Shouldn't they be replaced due to deterioration in the foam structure?

It is the styrofoam, not the foam pads that are rumoured (if that is not too strong a term) to deteriorate. But that seems to have been debunked. The adhesives may deteriorate - that's the current party line from Snell, and the manufacturers. I don't think it's been proven. I suspect they subject these things to accelerated life tests, and once they've survived long enough to satisfy the manufacturers, they accept the design and start making them. If they haven't had any failures after the equivalent of five years, they're happy to say they're good for five years, but they're not about to make any claims about how much longer they would last. And they're happy to sell you a new one.

I have had to buy new helmets for the same reason. You may check the Specialized web site. They sell replacement pads for their current helmets for $10. Maybe you could cut the to fit your helmet. Other manufactures will give you a free replacement if you ask while it is still relatively new.

If it is just the 'sizing pads', then you can make do with some DIY foam pads and superglue.
We check our pads regularly as sometimes they start coming unglued. Superglue to the rescue!
The styrofoam shell is not replaceable/fixable. Cracked a helmet? Just replace it.
