Cyclocross - Thoughts on custom painting bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do you think it's a waste? Or does it individualize your bike? Of course, it may become eye candy to a thief, but I'm not too worried about that since I lock mine up in the garage and I don't leave it outside unattended for more than a few mins. It could still happen, but less likely. Or is there something about seeing and knowing what bike others are riding? Just curious.

I looked into it and am still considering it for my old TCR frame. It's stickers are crap (they used to not clear coat over the stickers).
I have a buddy with two custom painted frames and they sure do draw a lot of attention. They are spectacular looking.
I found a local guy who will do just about anything I want for $300 or $350.
Another option is just to powdercoat the thing for ~$80.

I have powdercoated several frames. For me it is to remove graphics but to each their own. I like having personal touches on my bikes.

my sentiments exactly. i've also had a few frames powdercoated.

i had my ridley crosswind powdercoated because it looked like the eurotrash lovechild of a dumb nike ad and a rave flier. i think it said 'ridley' on it 11 times!? yuck. i also HATED the graphiczz.

original is always better, even if it looks "crappy".

You want to paint a brand new nova pro? I think that's a hot looking bike. Personally I'd only be tempted to paint a bike that needed it.
