Northern California - Just finished a father and son project, now where's the Advil?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Getting old is no fun but the project sure was. First time wrenching with my son on his '92 Volvo 240. We replaced all the belts except the timing belt in a little over 2 hours. Couldn't find a good "how-to" in either the Haynes or Bentley manual so we reversed engineered it. We had a great time wrenching together. But now my lower back hurts so I better load up on Advil before this develops into another excuse not to ride.
What father/son, mother/daughter things do you folks do besides ride?

Teach my son (11 1/2) how to clean and regrease hubs and other parts as I am cleaning up a univega for him (not as cool as his bmx....but it will be faster)
build Halloween moving scary objects
build magic tricks (cirle square illusion)
gardening projects (build conatiner for planting)

My daughter started reloading with me when she was about 6 years old. Since then, I've coached her to Distinguished Expert in light rifle - she achieved that 1 day before her 10th birthday.
While she never got the competition bug like her dad did, we do enjoy going down to the range now and again to punch holes in the targets. Good fun!
Most recently, I built an aviary in the backyard for my wife. While I did the bulk of the planning/construction, it really was a family project and everyone was involved. My daughter is very artistic, and reall did a fantastic job painting the little bird houses.

I love to spend time teaching my kids to cook. I learned at my mom's elbow so it is fun to pass it on.
The time in the kitchen is so interactive and lends itself to all kinds of conversations.
Plus, they are learning a skill they can use for a lifetime. I also tie in math and economics, like:
"Even if we are careful it costs our family of four $25 to eat out at Taco Bell but we just made home made fajitas, rice and refried beans for us for about $6"
