My name is Steve and my 12 yr old Daughter is Paige, we started collecting bikes a couple weeks ago and now it's an obsession.
1st bike was my wifes mothers Schwinn American, it was modded in the 70s by her sister, has ape hangers and banana seat and a coat of ugly green paint. She got so many compliments we decided to get more.
We added a 50s Firestone (built by Monark), then a 71 Varsity for me for $5, added a 50s J.C. Higgins that we saw in someone back yard, been sitting in the rain a long time, refurbed the hubs and it rides great. Just added a 71 Suburban (girls) and 55 Corvette (missing most items and painted over) so now I need to start fixing up my vette.
Need to get a bike clamp but it's really fun and having something in common with my daughter! She is lucky there are a lot of girls bikes out there.
