I'm looking for some larger (>20oz) water bottles. I've carried 3 bottles before in a race and would really prefer to just carry two larger ones.
Any recommendations? right now I'm using the generic Specialized water bottles.
Specialized has a 24 ounce version of their big mouth. I think it's just called "big mouth" while the 20oz bottles are "little big mouth"

I've got the Specialized 24oz (not that i've measured, but from comparing my bottle to the photos it appears to be the larger version)
Is there anything out there with more volume?

thanks umd!
Those that UMD linked to would seem to be nice but what size bike would you need for those to fit? I know that I have seen people on 54cm bikes have trouble with the 24 oz bottles? The extra 10 oz of water would be welcome on some longer rides/races when there is no support...

CAAD9 54cm
there looks to be enough room in my frame
It's "umd" not "UMD"
I have a 54cm frame and have a good amount of extra clearance for my bottles. I have no idea how much bigger thoze Zefal bottles are though. Most people's clearance issues are getting the bottles in and out, and for that there are side-loading cages.

Polar 24 oz insulated bottles. Fit in a Tacx cage nicely, but are kind of long (I ride a 61 cm).

32oz Gatorade bottles (http://gatorade.elsstore.com/view/product/?id=25106&cid=446) -- nice thick, rubbery material; never crack, work great! Six for $9 + S/H

seems like bigger bottles have more tendency to bounce out.

I've used both the Zefal 34oz bottle and the Elite 34 oz bottle extensively and like the Zefal better. It has a better seal, a wider mouth and seems sturdier. The nipple on the Elite bottles can pop out inadvertently, which sucks, but otherwise i likes both bottles.

It doesn't bother me too much but I like to remind people from time to time.

Trek has 24oz. bottles and I carry two on every ride even if it is only a 5 mile ride. You never know when 5 becomes 50+ :P

:thumb: Also how well do the side loading cages hold bottles? I don't have the problem myself, using Tacx Tao's and 24 oz bottles, but I'm on a 56cm frame. I have seen people have issues with 24 oz bottles on 54cm frames though but I don't think they were using side loading cages. I would expect that bottle you linked to to be a little longer than a 24 oz though as it holds an additional 10 oz?
I'm not sure how big the magnum bottles are or how well they fit in frames. I've never used the side-loaders, but I know some women with small frames who do. The ones I've seen are the exact same as mine but the opening is slightly offset. I have a 54cm tarmac frame which has a sloping toptube, taking up some space, and have no problems with the 24oz bottles.

Woah, cool link to the zefal bottles. I might pick up a couple for road races in the heat.
2 of those should be more than enough for a 3 hour race. Heck, one might be enough. I could just dump some of the 2nd one on my head when I start overheating!

I've been using the Zefals for years. They stay just fine in alloy cages (this includes singletrack / cx / bumpy gravel road riding).
Only gripe is they never really seal 100%, not even new. As they age it gets worse, so expect leakage. If you're putting drink mix in there that means you're getting gooey sutuff running down underneath your BB where the cables run (on my bike) and that can mess with shifting if you don't keep it clean. A minor fuss for me since the extra volume is worth it and i keep the bike reasonably clean anyway.
