Hey guys!

I'm new to the forums and biking in general. I recently acquired a 1982(ish?) Motobecane Mirage and will hopefully be putting the miles on it starting tonight! I really have no idea what components are on it, I am assuming stock, or basically anything about the bike haha. It seems to be in pretty good shape considering its age. It has some light scratching on the frame but other than that it looks good! I will hopefully post some pictures either late tonight when I get off work or sometime Sunday for you guys to check out and hopefully give me some input on in. Hope to hear from you guys and hopefully see some of you out there!

Congratulations! I've recently acquired a 1981 Mirage mixte (http://lovelybike.blogspot.com/2009/07/marianne-and-her-lover.html), and my husband a 1975 Super Mirage (http://lovelybike.blogspot.com/2009/07/beautiful-boston-day.html). I love these bicycles!

One thing I must say if you are immediately going to ride this bike, is: be sure to have the tires checked out. The original tires on my husband's Motobecane blew up the first time he took it for a ride, even though the bike was sold in "ready to ride condition". (This goes for all vintage bikes of course, not just Motobecane!)

Yeah the first thing I did was take it down to my LBS and put some new tires/tubes on it. The old ones were not even close to functional haha.

Mirages are excellent classic bicycles. I added fenders, upright bars, and a few other accessories!

I had a Motobecane Grand Touring I bought in 1981. It was a really nice rider - fast and seemingly effortless. And it was riding several of my friend's Mirage and Super Mirage bikes that sent me to the Motobecane store - Harris Cyclery in Newton, MA - and purchase the GT.

All was bliss - until some ditz backed out of her driveway, without looking behind her first, at a high rate of speed. I took her insurance company to the cleaners.

You've got one of the best "baby-boomer" bicycles of all time. Just beware: The ditz in-the-driveway."
