Hey Folks: I will be at meetings/courses during the last week of July in downtown Richmond. Should I bring a bike? Is the local biking decent. I'll have to check my schedule to decide if I should rent for a day or 2 vs. bringing my own bike. I figure I can ride a couple evenings at least. Where does one rent a bike if I decide to go this route. Any bike maps, local trails, great roads that I should not miss? Any evening group rides? Thanks Charlie

Downtown has some insanely steep hills, but uptown in the Fan is definitely nice to ride around. There are local kids biking around in big groups a lot but they're pretty cliquey. There's a bike shop in Carytown that does bike rides Friday and Saturday:

Friday Ride - Every Friday @ 1pm
Saturday Ride - Every Saturday @ 8am
Here's a map of the Saturday ride:

Starts and ends at the bike shop. While there are a ton of bikes in Richmond, there aren't many bike lanes and some of the drivers aren't too friendly. Do you ride on the road or on trails? There are some lovely spots off-road on Belle Isle.

Single track. Here's a good link to check out more info:

Richmond is one of those cities lucky enough to have a river running through it, so take advantage of that fact when you come down here and check out the riverside trails!
