researchin air flow dynamics through insect trachea.

If you're not joking, you'll have to explain that one!

A very powerful x-ray beam at argonne is sent through a living insect. It actually doesn't have much of an effect on the creature's lifespan. A scintillator transforms the x-rays that pass through the insect into visible light, and by aligning things properly, we can actually record on a videocamera all of the density differences inside the bug. (See jan. 03 Science mag.) It looks like the bug's trachea are expanding and compressing at rates (in some taxa) that don't necessarily correspond to the traditional theories on insect respiration. So I am trying to calculate exactly how much air is flowing through the trachea, with hopes that then we'll get a better idea for how the bug is breathing.

(i wouldn't have.... but you asked~!)

Keep any bike in Chicago locked to a radiator or something in your apartment. I hate to say it but I trust all buildings there to have at least on thief. That or secure the building by blasting any would be evil doers with your argonne beam.

have you considered a folder? Something you can keep by your side?

Hey, minicooper:
We might be neighbors - I live in Hyde Park, too, near Cornell & 53rd. Sorry to hear about your bike getting stolen...

Hi Mini-

I believe there is a big group of cyclists out at U of C that ride every morning. You may want to do a little research in that area.

Welcome to the forums! I live downtown myself, and when they showed me the bike room (outside in the garage second level with no doors), I decided to get hooks and hang all my bikes in my studio apartment. I have 4 bikes, and it's a tight fit, but I'd rather be in a tight fit than have no bike at all! But I have insurance too, so that's always a relief for me. You should seriously consider getting renters insurance!

Welcome to the neighborhood. Sorry to hear about your bike.
