General Cycling Discussion - Road Bike Accident New Bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi I'm looking for some advice, I got a new road bike last week from a reputable online bike store. Got the bike and my friend fitted it for me. Took it out on its first spin and after 10K's as I was doing a downhill stretch the back wheel buckled out of the blue. I was doing around 60kph at the time and as you can guess I ended up crashing pretty hard. I was really lucky and only have cuts and bruises.
Wanted to get input on what rights I have regarding damges repairs replacement equipment etc? Thanks in advance Simo

Have you contacted the "reputable" online store? If it is who I think it is, they tell you to get your new purchase assembled by a qualified mechanic. Since you didn't do that, my guess is that you are SOL as far as getting them to replace anything. Factory built wheels, IMO, should checked for proper spoke tension and stress relieved by a real person before they go on a bike.

Can you say: Bikesdirect.com?
They were actually very helpful and have asked for the bike to be sent back to them. I am not located in the States (Irish) so no it's not bikesdirect.com.
