im 17 live on long island and feel like i never hear about races. i want to get into competitive cycling badly. should i join a club? or get in contact with a national team or something?

Find a bike shop and ask one of their employees. Ideally, you can find a race somewhere around you and show up with a bike and race as a Cat5. Then you can talk to people there about teams.

Train and compete in local races. If you are good enough, you won't have to contact anybody, they will be contacting you.

The alleycats live on the streets of NYC - which happens to be where the OP lives - not on the internet. If you're having trouble finding a race in NYC, you're simply not looking.

OP is looking to get into "competitive cycling". Regardless of whether or not you want to eventually do formal road races, you can still start doing alleycats. They're frequent, cheap to enter, require no license or safety equipment, and are a ton of fun. Best of all, they'll get you in shape, and get you used to riding as fast as you bloody can. I did a bunch of alleycats before I ever bought my UCI license.

i dont live in nyc. i live almost 80 miles away. on LI. ive herd of ally cats but never done one. and it would be kind of hard to get into the city due to the fact that i dont have a car. maybe take the train?

No matter where you live, stop into your local bike shop and ask. They can help you out with finding a club to join and get you started.
