Does any one know if this is officialy open? I saw people riding on it yesterday and the gates were pushed aside (but not removed). My family would like to ride it tomorrow when we go visit the grand parents who live a few houses away from it.

I didn't know there is a bike path in Chelmsford, though I've only cycled there twice in about thirty years. The second time was just yesterday, from Lowell into North Chelmsford and then down Rte 4 to 27 and on to Acton. Where is the bike path because I would refer it to a Chelmsford resident I know, and I will ask him about it when I see him next.

Hello Jim,
If your fried lives in Chelmsdale I'll bet anything that they know about the bike path! They have been paving over an old railroad bed FOREVER! It runs behind where Skips used to be and behind the LBS and down past the Bynam School and the Agway and thence towds Westford. It promises to be a right boaring paved stretch of straightness BUT it's perfect for the family to peddle up and down and litteraly two houses down from the in-law's place.
This is a link to the web site (http://www.brucefreemanrailtrail.org/about/about_bruce_freeman.html) but it looks to be a done from home or for charity or some such thing and doesn't appear to be umm....definative.

hey whatever makes the going easy. flat new pavement lets the kids feel successful. this will be an awesome trail when it is done if there aren't many road crossings to slow you down.

Well, it is NOT officially open but there were a TON of people riding up and down it. It's a really nice place to ride with the family and will be a BOON to kids trying to get around town and people commuting into Lowell from Chelmsford, westford and beyond. Unimaginable, the LBS that has been in busness in town for decades sits right on the trail yet they have NO signage facing the trail an NO ACCESS from the trail: there is a sturdy and tall wooden fence along that protion of the trail. Huh? Officially open the end of august.
