Texas - Quick head's up for Braes Bayou riders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The Braes bayou MUP has been torn out from Rice to 610. It's just dirt and rocks now. Hopefully they'll fix it soon. Until then, just wanted to give you a heads up that you might want to ride N. Braeswood from Rice to 610 instead of the MUP.

I hope this section gets fixed soon. That section of MUP really needed some repair.

Wish they would hurry up they have been building that bridge forever.

Scattered, are you talking about the section by the Zoo/Golf Course?
I'm talking between 610 and Rice, outside the loop.
Or do you know something cool that I don't in which case, spill it! :D

Yep, I was talking about by the zoo, I don't know where my brain was it is clearly stated in the original post.
They also need to fix that section east of Kirby past the foot bridge just before the path drops down by the bayou. Some man-eating cracks there! (larger than the Rice/610 cracks)

Yeah, I hate that section...and the runners are ALWAYS on the flat side of the path...
Not to mention all the people who come barreling around the blind corner by the bridge... looking away from the path ... with headphones on.
Man, I'm whiney today!

Thanks for the heads up. Most likely it won't be fixed by Aug. 29th.

OK, that section is now paved. However, the section just inside 610 between the train tracks and Stella Link is now torn up.
Glad they're fixing it up though...I hope they keep working East.

That was fast and of course it makes perfect sense that they get to tear up more stuff.
It seemed to take forever to get those little sections of THP done after they had torn that up.
I'll try not to complain too much though. I have UPS bringing in a new wheel set from Dallas. Alex SUB rims ( http://www.alexrims.com/ you find them in the Cross/Trekking section) laced onto formula flipflop hubs.Hopefully I'll stop breaking rear spokes now.

LOL, you were hating those wheels on our TdEo288 :-)

Yeah well I'm blaming the broken spoke I got (along with the slow leak) during the ride for dropping so far behind toward the last.
Yep, that's the ticket. Broken spokes. That and my wife ...er Morgan Fairchild, have kept me of my bike too long. Got out of shape ( though my blood pressure has greatly improved, back to normal levels when I checked it right after that ride when I stopped at CVS on my way home ).

It is nice that they are finally fixing the bad spots of this MUP. I hope they go all the way to bridge where the path drops down to bayou level. The stretch of pavement is really dangerous when riding at night. Now if they would fix that water fountain that is always running just past Stella Link.
I think the water fountain is fixed! At least it looked that way the last time I rode the path last Wed. Fresh dirt by the fountain and no running water.

Yep, it was off when I passed it on Sunday too. In fact, I saw a couple runners drink from it, and then it turned off. It's about time.

WOOHOO My new wheels came in this evening. Already put them on the trusty Draft ( fixed with the fixed side of the flip flop as the drive side :D )
Rode around the parking lot a little. Twas comic trying to get my right foot in the toe clips while the pedals kept turning

Have they fixed the path from 610 to Stella Link?
Have they fixed the path from 610 to Stella Link?
I was out on the path this morning and rode up to Stella Link. The trail is complete west of Stella Link, but now they are working on the path east of there.
Anyone know who to contact about this resurfacing? It is unfortunate that the part between Stella Link and the railroad tracks is significantly narrower than it used to be. Makes passing in certain situations not possible now. Although the smooth riding surface sure is nice.

I was on the MUP this morning. They path is under construction on the east side of the bridge under Stella Link. Strange to climb up the hill from under the bridge on the rough surface. The work is quickly completed, so I wonder howl ong this new path will last. This path is the City of Houston, so I guess they would be the correct authority to contact about the new pavement.
