I think it was closer to 30 (maybe 28) :p I have been planing to ride in the upcoming covered bridge ride http://www.coveredbridgetour.org/ It has a 40 mile route that I feel I should be up to by the time it rolls around. So today I packed up the bike, called a fellow clyde from the forum (you know him as Hill-pumper) and asked If he would like to ride part of the route so I can build up to my goal. He jumped on it even scouted and planed the route (very nice I didn't even have to think.....wait is that good?? :D ) so we went on a little tour of the country side and I increased my max distance ever ridden by 3....6...8? miles :thumb: Now this is the first time I have actually rode with anyone and I have to say it was nice, we chatted most of the way (except when the wind was sideways and I couldn't hear) All in all it was a great ride and aside from me holding our speed down a bit I think I did OK. Sorry I don't have any pics but I think Hill-pumper is going to post some later (I don't have a small camera)

It's amazing how much longer and faster you can ride with a group or even a single other person. It's not just the wind resistance, the motivation and focus really makes a difference. It sounds like you're ready for the 40 already.

Hill-pumper is one of the folks I routinely read for encouragement. I'm pleased to learn he's as nice a guy in person as he is online.

And congratulations on the ride. I look forward to the photos. Especially if they have covered bridges in them.

I finely got time now since going to my great nephews birthday party. I remapped the ride and we did (drum roll please....) 28.5 miles. :thumb: So, 6.5 miles more then your best . With a little more riding, the 40 will be easy for you. Don't worry about the speed, you will get faster. I had a GREAT time as well, and look forward to riding with you again.

WOW Neil, I have to say I am TRULY honored that you read my post for encouragement. You have motivated many yourself, so please don't sell yourself short. I am sorry to say that I only took two pictures of our ride. We were talking so much that I really forgot to take many. The route that we took also did not have any covered bridges on it:(, since that was the only way we could cover the distance that TC wanted to do today. Never fear, the ride is about one month away and I will get pictures then.

As a side note, this is the second ride that I have done with a forum member and will say that both times that I have enjoyed meeting and riding with them. Both time they were as nice as they seem to be online. :thumb:

So here are my two pictures....

This is TC enjoying the ride.

and this is the town of Crabtree Oregon, with a population of less then 500. Everybody in town seemed to be having a garage sale. We thought it was sort of funny to see the street lined with so many cars. So I snapped off a picture about half way through all the cars

I think TakingControl should use the photo you took of him as his avatar. :)

I didn't even know you snapped that pic. It was a great ride and while I was very tired, I wasn't dead on my feet so I'm sure I will be up to the 40:D

Oops, sorry I thought you had seen me do that:o, I can delete it you like.

You forgot to tell everyone the other highlight of the ride, not only did you do you highest distance to date, but your best MPH as well. :)

LOL no you don't have to delete it, I'm not that shy :o I know I did forget a couple of things 1. I am very massive, hence I build up a tremendous amount of kinetic energy on a very nice down hill (I hit 36 mph.....Brick) :twitchy: That is what makes hills worth the climb :D 2. when I got in the truck at the end of the ride I was smelling ammonia. I remembered a post from before about someone who had this happen so I read the reply's to it and determined it wasn't something I needed to be concerned about. I think I only smelled it because in the cab there was no wind.

All right TC! New personal bests rock.

Yea, it's way easier to ride with someone to increase speed and distance if you have the right riding partner. Hill Pumper sounds like the perfect riding buddy. I just wish Oregon wasn't so far away, those trail pics of his are down right awesome.
