My Father in law passed away 6 years ago, and my wife and her sis are finally (long story) getting around to obtaining some of his estate items, one of which is a red 1973 Paramount.
It has been hanging in a barn unridden for the last 12 years, and as near as I can tell (I had a very quick look a few months ago) it is in perfect condition (dusty) and 100% complete. He was a guy who always had the best, and once he owned something he took very good care of it.
It has the pinstriping around the lugs, I think the last year they did this. Anyone have any opinions/info on this bike? It is almost surely coming to me and I am very excited about the prospect of being able to ride it- not only because it sounds like a great bike but to honor his passing. My wife tells me he used to take off for long trips up in Nor Cal all by himself in the 70's and 80's.

You will be a lucky guy to get that Paramount!

I believe that lug lining stopped sometime during 1972. As I understand the story, the person at the factory that did lug lining died and was not replaced. My late 71 has it, my late 72 does not with no signs of it ever existing.

There were three road models in 1973, the P13-9 Professional Road Racer (10-speed - double chainring, five cog freewheel), the P10-9 10-speed Tourer (double chainring, five cog freewheel), and the P15-9 15-speed Tourer (triple chainring, five cog freewheel). You'll love it, regardless of which model it is.

Cool, in a sad way...

Make sure you take pics of it in the barn though.
I always forget before pics and kinda am bummed at my laziness,
"pixelated" memory is so much easier to show others!

Sounds like it will be going to someone who will appreciate it as much as your father-in-law obviously did.

I've never seen a Schwinn Paramount 'in the flesh' but I have come to appreciate them through this forum - wonderful bikes.

I believe the lug lining actually stopped in '71. Joe Brilando, who had done the work, retired at the end of that year.
