Electric Bikes - Bike crank moves with the wheel

When I converted my bike to an electric bike with a kit I found on eBay. It works great, but there is just one problem. When I try and pedal, I can't because if the wheel moves, the crank/pedals start moving too. I thought this was supposed to be able to pedal normally and use the electric. I am wondering if it is always like that or I messed up with the installation. I would just do :crash: if I can't figure it out.

You haven't included any information on the type or brand of kit or the Ebay listing for reference.

I would blindly guess that you have attached the output gear of the motor to the free wheel of the rear wheel. If you did that, the motor would spin the freewheel and also the chain and crank wheel any time the motor received any voltage. You'll end up breaking your leg if you continue with that kind of setup.

Kits with motors that drive the rear wheel of a bicycle with a separate chain must be installed with the chain on the LEFT side of the bicycles rear wheel with a new sprocket attached on the left side of the rear wheel hub. This will allow the rear wheel to spin with the motor applying force while the rider does not pedal and the freewheel on the right side of the bicycle does NOT spin.

The only other variation on the "non-hub motor" kits, that I know of, is one that can use the rear wheels free wheel, but requires replacing the crank wheel sprockets with a secondary free wheel.

If this is a rear hubmotor kit, then I would have to guess that you have damaged your freewheel somehow or the kit came with its own freewheel and it is jammed or is not actually freewheel. If it is not actually a freewheel then it probably is designed for a bike with a crank wheel/secondary freewheel.
