A friend (she is also my employer) wants to sell her Trek 950,which she bought new. I would guess the bike has less than 500 to 1,000 miles on it. Mix of LX and XT components, as installed by Trek. No upgrades have been done to the bike; all original, including brakes (canti-levers) brake pads, and tires. Uses Presta valve tubes. All rubber and cables are like new - the entire bike is like new. Frame size is Extra Small or Small, and is a steel frame.

She has asked me what it is worth. I told her I did not know, but would try and find out.

Please let me know what this bike is worth, so I can tell her. and Please no "It's not worth anything give it to me" posts. She needs to sell this bike soon.

I'm guessing it is worth between $550 and $700, but do not want to give her wrong information.

What year of 950? I know their are alot of fans here of the older lugged frames ( myself included), but do you know what year it was made? Vintage-Trek has a listing of models by year and color so you can check.

Sorry, assuming it is a mid 1990s bike based on your description, $125 to $150 for this bike. Even if it is newer, no way does it have that kind of value.

Used mountain bikes have very little value. I have two Trek 950s, a 1992 that cost me $75, and a 1994 that cost me $30. I passed on a third one for $50. Those prices are below market (good deals).

Bikepedia gives you M.S.R.P. and specs. The link for the '96 950 is:

http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?ItemID=50637&Type=bike

You can get the specs for other model years as well. The bike was pricey "back in the day", and is a great quality bike. The price you think it is worth now is about what it sold for new. Thrifty Bill, however, is "on the money" about the current selling price for used 950s. Condition and market effect the price, but his price range is pretty good. If it is super clean, maybe $175.

I sold a 930 for $300 and it didn't even have any gears.

The early ones with a Reynolds 531 frame and level top tube are the valuable ones.

I would estimate $150 to $200 max.

To get a thread moved to the appraisals section simply click on that little red triangle under the OP's avatar.

A message box pops up and in it you type a message such as "please move to appraisals section".

A mod gets the message, evaluates the thread, and takes care of it from there.

Why has this thread not been moved?

It has now, thanks to someone reporting it. ;)

Moderators don't read every thread as they are started, so it is very helpful if users report threads that need our attention in the manner cb400bill mentioned.

I'm guessing it is worth between $550 and $700, but do not want to give her wrong information.Unless it was made within the last year or two, it's not worth that.

I would estimate $150 to $200 max.+1, I think an exceptional bike may go as high as $200, but $150 is probably closer to the actual value, again, depending on the decade.

Thanks for the tip. I should have just said $3.50 and reported it.
