Mountain Biking - My bike got dirty and so did I! (and injured :(

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Well I flew off my bike completely a couple times but managed to get away with only some cuts and bruises...until I tried to stop myself from flying down this hill and had a moment of indecision (ahhhh which way to go??? stumps and muddy slippery roots everywhere....a drop off to the otherside, narrow trail, rain... And, I was unfamiliar with the trail. So, I tried to stop my bike with my foot, CRUNCH...the momentum made my foot fold over itself...OUCH! I dove off into the bushes and flung my bike the rest of the way down. I had to limp to an easier trail back, and I managed to ride 1.5 miles back (was easier than walking). Now, I am on crutches though.....nothing broken but some torn up tendons in my foot I guess. My ankle is fine... So anyway, my first "true" offroad experience was fun but kind of a bust! At least the injury happened 1/2 way through instead of the beginning. Photos below of my limping foot/dirty legs, and bike.

Ouch! I hope your feeling better soon, and out riding again. Slippery roots are my #1 enemy while riding, there never fun! Was this your first crash? I'll never forget my first major crash, so much fun, yet so much pain. :)

Sorry about your crash! Riding in the wet isn't nearly as much fun as when it's dry. Everything is so slick and it's much easier to crash. Plus you can't go nearly as fast. Hope you heal soon. Your bike is looking a lot better though!:D

Congrats, you're now an OFFICIAL MOUNTAIN BIKER! That bike looks better now that it's dirty! Hope that ankle heals soon, then maybe you and your hubby can meet me and my wifey somewhere for a ride! I've been itching to head to Ocala, (Santos Trail) it's a great place to ride and there are different trails for all levels. You guys would really like it!(I'm assuming, and you what happens when you do that!)
Stay off that ankle, but remember to do some range of motion excercises to keep it from stiffening up!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'll try to heal as quickly as I can! I am interested in going to the Ocala trails...heard good things about them (I have to brave that trail that hurt me first!) That would make me feel better I think :)

Hope the leg heals up soon - Do you do much cycling; it looks like you have pretty strong calves !
Anyhow, what I really wanted to say was 'DIRTY ?' that's not even close to dirty. When I lived in Scotland a while back, if you got back from a ride and you could see any paint or metal except perhaps the seat post and stem, it WASN'T dirty - LOL !
Get well soon :D .
Well I knew some of you guys would make fun of my "dirty" but trust me that is dirty around here I think! It was a lot cleaner in the last photo I posted.... and unless it rains a lot more, my bike should stay clean except for maybe sand in all my gears. No one in this neck of the woods seems to get their bike very filthy. Maybe if I take a trip to the mountains when it is all rainy to see my parents I could get into some more mud! :) Getting muddy was kinda fun I must confess. I need to get some seat covers though!
