Larry,

I would suggest the Chicago Lakefront trail - over 20 miles of a Great Lake on one side with an impressive skyline on the other side. However, this city dude is not in tune with agricultural things, and suspects that the 'big farm show' is elsewhere in the state where there are actually farms. :D With a few more details about where you'll be, someone can probably provide a more focused recomendation.

Welcome to IL!! Mile after magnificent mile of corn and soybeans, with a sprinking of bike trails.

Where in Illinois is The Big Farm Show? That would help focus in on places to ride.

For southern IL:
http://www.bikelib.org/mapstrails/trailslist.htm - check out the Tunnel Hill trail: http://www.bikelib.org/mapstrails/tunnelhill.htm (45 miles long, crushed limestone surface).

As you wander north, consider a stop in Arthur, IL, an Amish/Mennonite community. Lots of quiet roads with slow speed traffic.

Champaign seems to have a bunch of trails if you want to tour a college town....

There are other newer trails, but many sources on the internet seem to be out-of-date by 5 years and more.

HTH,
