for the price these seem like a good deal
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3684231122
but it makes me wonder since there were so few bidders.

Personally, think the hubs are probably a cheap Chinese knockoff trying to sell by using the Selle Italia name!!! Because I went on Selle Italia website about 2 months ago and all they showed were seats, I tried again today but the site is down, however did go to: http://www.bikepartsusa.com/view.phtml?f_b=Selle+Italia where they show all the products by Selle and there all seats.

From all of the inquirers the seller did before he ended up selling them no one seems to know anything about them. Though they are not cheap by any means. They just seem to be a very limited item. I bet they are worth more then the 61.00 I paid for sure.

I checked all web sites concerning the Alpina brand and there is no mention of any hubs, only spokes. I could be wrong, but I still think they are a cheap Chinese hub using American recognized names to sell the hubs; in other word pirated hubs!! Remember the Chinese are very good at pirated products, they are the number one producer of pirated CD's just as an example.

They are branded Selle Italia not alpine that's the model number or maybe the spoke type? This is not a mass produced Item I don’t think or there would be more info. It is an oddball thing as no searches on the net have found anything.
I misread the email I got from Selle itaia and here it is below. I just emailed back I was thinking he just forwarded my email and I was waiting for a reply.

Steve,

Your message below to Selle Italia was forwarded to us as their agent for North America; I hope you will find this acceptable.

Please let me know what information you would like on the Alpina hubs and which wheels these hubs are used on and we’ll see if we can help out.

Is there any chance that they were manufactured for the Selle Italia racing team?
and that is why they have that on them?
I don't know, they sure don't look cheap or poorly made to me.
I'm thinking they look like velomax or some other hub but I just can't
make the connection. . .

Steve, why not E-Mail Selle and ask them if that is one of their hubs and inquire of about it's quality? Most companies will respond, it may take a week.

I got a email from selle looks like I did pretty good.

These are the real thing not some China knock off, the owners son of Selle Italia several years ago decide that they should expand the SI product line into wheels as with anything Selle Italia does they went first class and had everything made from scratch to their specifications by Alpina Raggi a fantastic Italian spoke and nipple company, the hubs are C and Cd out of a solid block of a alloy, bearings used are completely sealed for low maintenance and encompass several seals while the front axle is alloy the rear is Titanium. As for spokes you will need to use a straight pull spoke when lacing to get the spoke length it will depend on the ERD of the rim the dealer you purchase the spokes from should be able to but into a computer program available to them from distributors the hub diameter and rim ERD which will compute the spoke length.

Suggested retail on a set of these hubs when new and being promoted was (sit down) over $600.00 so at $61.00 you got a great deal, just remember that they haven’t been made for about 6 years so no parts are available but with proper care should give you many many miles of trouble free riding enjoyment.

Had a set that I retired. They use straight pull spokes. The hubs have a sharp edge that rubs against spokes. Never ending broken spokes. They are trash.

did they break on the inside of the hub or outside? it would be easy to relive the sharp edge.

Where did you find this info, because all the web sites I looked at (Selle and Alpina plus a bunch of others that listed their products) never made mention of those hubs or even mentioned ever being made. Don't get excited, I'm not saying your wrong, I just would like to visit the web site and read about it and anything else they may have made.

I got it from selle Italia when I emailed them. well from one of the reps in the us. they would not be on the webpage since they were made 6 years ago.

I am debating on fixing the sharp area problem or just selling them. I just want a eally good rear hub. and sealed cartridge bearings appeal to me.
