Ugh.

For starters there is an olympic distance and a sprint distance race and it is all within the island.

The olympic and the sprint courses are the same. how is this possible? you ask. because there are laps and laps and laps. For the sprint-one swim, three bike, and two run, for the oly-2 elongated for the swim, six for the bike and 3 elongated for the run.

I competed in the sprint course.
Swim: Swim was relatively warm as far as San Francisco bay water goes. Easy triangular course, and no major currents.

Bike: This is the "Ugh" moment. It is very flat (a grand total of Zero climbs) so pretty easy BUT there are potholes EVERYWHERE. the corners are also marked not perfectly. plenty of curbs that sneak up. (saw a couple of crashes of people who turned a little too early.

Run: Just a very very flat 5 or 10k depending on the distance.

I did pretty well. (especially considering I only got two hours of sleep the night before and not training for three weeks-long story, don't ask). I did it in about 1:10.

All in all, a very fun race if you don't mind bouncing everywhere on the bike.

I heard the bike course was supposed to have been repaved this year. Guess not, then. Did it last year, the bike course was rough and full of potholes. Glad Ibowed out this year.

Good job, though, congratulations!

Wow. Three laps for a bike course in a sprint? Sounds dangerous.
