Northern California - Now this is some interesting hill climbing data...

Knowing what a sad bunch of data fiends we all are here on the NorCal board, thought I'd share something I stumbled across. Turns out that Garmin/Slipstream are sharing a lot of their Edge 705 data from various stages at this years tour. Check out this one from Danny Pate on stage 7 (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/8476907)- impressive stats!

Wiggins is even faster. 16k climbing, 21.9 average over 153 miles.

Wow.

He basically did the death ride (after already racing for a week) in 6.5 hours, without stopping. :D

I am a bit confused about these stats though. Why would Pate and Wiggins be differing by about 14 miles on the same stage of the tour? Bit odd, I'd say.

Looks like Wiggins forgot to turn his Garmin off at the end. If you check out the elevation profile, he shows a downhill section at the end (it was a mountain top finish), and also on the timing profile there's what looks like a bunch of mulling around at the summit (<1mph) before kicking off again.

Either way, it's impressive looking at this as a single performance let alone part of a 3week stage race.

I am skeptical of that elevation gain. The numbers from Garmin Connect often are much higher than from other means of measuring.

However the average power is probably accurate and is pretty impressive... about 100 watts more than what I put out for the Death Ride.

It would be nice to think that even the pro's who are actually riding for Garmin get their elevation data all screwed when they upload it just like the rest of us do.
