well ... after days of driving 700 miles for work; swimming 1500 meters several times; weight training before work and back wrenching raquetball after work; and watching the Tour deFrance ... I had to hit the wheels!
there was more traffic than I expected for a Sunday morning. by time I had breakfast and got my act together and got the bike out of the basement and wiped and lubed the chain I departed at 9:30 am.
the shoulders were rotten and I quickly realized my Sunday ride would be more like a commuters battle for road position and inconvienient stops and loss of momentum. my new habit is sudden stops skidding my rear wheel. but I was determined to have a good time.
departed 9:30 am
total miles 49.991
max speed 31.3
average speed 15.0
saddle time approx 3 hrs 20 min
heading home west I got a little confused cuz of the 62 bypass around Wilmington. I needed to ask a uniformed pedestrian for directional help. might have been a security guard or bus driver. thought of bringing the new auto GPS, but didn't. I like the econo bike computer cuz then I can decide when to turn around to plan the total miles. at 25 miles I came across a quiet Armenian Cultural Center. I had a banana and a short protein shake with a salt water chaser on the shady front steps. was glad to get home and lay in the sun :-)
