No clue. Unlike many posters on these forums, I don't have any electronic gizmos on my bike any more. The speed probably wouldn't have been overwhelming - it was a headwind into a slight downhill finish.

I only know that we averaged 25.8 (at least that's what my teammate told me). I've had a few faster crits/circuits this year.

I don't either; kept losing the damned sensor! :-p

I'll tell you, though; looked like a pretty nice sprint, though it also looked like you had it for a little while. Either way, great job and keep it up!

before the slight downhill, there was a huge headwind. some guys had gapped the field WAY early going into the wind, so I bridged up there and surprisingly gapped the field myself, then flew passed the two riders ahead (one is in orange behind me). i'm more of a "flyer" than a sprinter anyways, so the finish fit my style perfectly...


edit: I also had a wireless Vetta V100 computer on my bike for a while, mostly just to record distances. But I never remembered to turn the thing on so I'd have to map my routes again anyways, and then the front magnet/transmitter started pooping out and even after spending $25 on replacement parts, it wouldn't work. so i just took it all off. one of these days when I feel like splurging, maybe I'll throw something back on there -and it'll probably measure in watts.

Making this the Dawg Days thread - in the Cat 3 there was a terrific series of attacks to start then we had one of our boys roll off with one other rider and decided to try to make it stick. Taking turns with my other teammates, we were all over the pack and were having a lot of fun. Biggest gap the break got was 17 seconds, and it was only 10 seconds in the last lap. The break was successful by about 3 bike lengths after being away for about 30 minutes, half the race.

In the 1/2/3, the beginning attacks were even more furious and it was looking like this was going to be a really hard day. Again, got a man in a break that started gaining distance fast and our road captain said to make it stick if we could. Individually it was 10x harder as protecting our Cat 3 break and we were a fraction as effective against the tougher competition, but riding with a purpose in a 1/2/3 for 40min of a 75min race and seeing the break stick was about the toughest ride I've ever put in, lower wattage numbers be damned. Think I got heat or sun stroke that set in after the race, I was a complete mess and thought I was gonna puke and had chills and cold sweats in waves for a couple hours after. That's a first.

I'd like to take a little credit for Siggy's great tactical maneuver ;). His positioning was perfect, and he went for the sprint really early going up the little hill into the headwind. That is precisely where I lost my race. I don't have a 400m+ sprint (as is evident by my similarly poor result at Hagerstown on Saturday). I strung it out early and should've been in a big gear ready for a track start when I heard the bigger sprinters come around when we hit the headwind. Considering the way we approached the primes, I was expecting them to move much, much later. I was caught off guard and then allowed myself to get boxed in. Perfect replay of Saturday. :(

So, I told Siggy to be on the outside and to go right out of the last traffic circle. The sprint happens at the top of the hill, not the bottom (with the exception of some slight shuffling among the first few in the last 30m maybe). It seemed to work.

A friend of ours was doing the W3 race next (scored separately w/in the Open race). She has a similar sprinting style, so I repeated my advice to her when she came over to congratulate Siggy, with the exception of making a move even earlier if she was going to be put into a lead-out role for the 1/2's. Her cat 1 teammate rolled off the front pretty early in the race as she usually does, so our friend was able to fight for herself. Her win wasn't quite as definitive, but it wasn't exactly close.

I don't mind my fail so much if it helped these two know how to go for the win.

Nice win. You've just got to take those opportunities when they present themselves. I am envious - I damn near got a win last year under similar circumstances. Must be a good feeling to get to that line first! :D

Hagerstown yes, wasn't really interested in the race.

Cheung - you didn't miss too much in Hagerstown. There was a surprisingly low turnout for a championship crit (WTF?) and then it became worse with the delay for storms as folks went home instead of lining up again. I think only 35 starters and 22 finishers.

Congrats!! A W is a feeling you'll not soon forget.
