Sometime in the next few days I have to take a 'placement test' in order to take an evening class at a nearby tech school.

I graduated thirty years ago with a B.S. and took several classes at the tech school a few years back but have been told that they have lost my college transcript, hence the need for the placement test.

Not having taken such a test in over thirty years I don't know what to expect. To add insult to injury, I have to write an essay.....on the spot.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Find a different school?

Request a copy of your transcripts from your College?

Just take it, most placement tests are designed to be very easy. I haven't had any math in 3 years and I placed in the top category for SDSU.

you'll want to practise on the essay written on the spot.
I'm not sure if they allow it, but if there is a topic given before hand, get a few cue cards.
I bombed the written essay on the spot plenty of times because I couldn't think of anything or get enough points to make a full 5 paragraph essay.

Our students are required to take a placement test as well (2 year college) - I took it too when I re-enrolled as a full time students some years ago. It was a test that had english/grammer/math etc questions that allowed the councellors to see if there is a problem in one area and then steer the future student towards a class that would bring them up to speed in the weak area. I have to say I sweated a bit - especially on the few algebra questions, but most stuff you can back yourself into.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I am probably over-thinking things a bit but then again......I usually do.

KT, I am old, fat, and slow and usually in LastPlace, but since I increasingly ride alone maybe I should change my name to FirstPlace.....

Tude.....Math? I can't even figure out what I can't figure out.

Thanks again.
