Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - chainring Question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have a triple chainring crankarm. Where can I expect to attach my chainring? To the middle or outer position? I don't yet have a bottom bracket so I'm not sure what my chainline will look like yet; do triple crankarms make awkward singlespeed conversions?

You can use either position depending on your chainline needs, I've used both on different builds.

The chainline will depend on whether it is a road or mtb crank arm and also whether you are using the bottom bracket spindle it was designed for.
Sheldon has a handy chart that may be of use to you.
